TM SmithTool was supplied with a customer part print, a spindle mounting, and a two week deadline. Working closely with our customer, Design Approval and Engineering was complete in two days. Using our Global Shop Process Management system the job seamlessly entered our manufacturing process. Simultaneously we received the milling cutters and inspected them to verify the bore sizes, key-way locations and hub thickness stack-ups. After heat treat all critical features were finish ground for squareness, concentricity, and size within 5 microns. Then before shipping all details where completely assembled and inspected for fit and function, dis-assembled marked and packaged. "We made the two week deadline"

Shrink-fit holder line now includes new DIN design

T.M. Smith Tool International has introduced tools that conform to a new DIN standard, DIN 69882 Form H, which is close to being issued. The new DIN standard is similar to the U.S. design except for the rate of taper on the exterior and the fact that they are supplied with preset screws.

T.M. Smith is offering shrink-fit holders in inch and metric bores in U.S. and DIN designs. Standard, extended, and extra-extended length sizes in CAT 40 and 50 V-flange shanks are available. These V-flange designs are production-balanced and conform to ANSI Standard B5.50.

The tapers are ground to ISO-1947 AT3 taper tolerances. Coolant is through the tool holder with an axial adjustment screw. To Read the complete article click here

All-in one solution for shrinking and cooling tools

The ISG3200WK combines shrinking technology with water cooling. With the new all-in one solution the shrinking and cooling cycle is done in one position. By the automated process the heated shrinking chuck is moved down in the cooling position with a pneumatic cylinder after the heating time. In the cooling position the chuck is flooded directly with emulsion. After the set water cooling time the chuck moves upwards. During the movement the air is blowing drying the chuck. This completely new kind of cooling achieves a record tool change time. Contact with the heated chucks is not possible and so there is no danger of burns.

New Product - This is our new Slim Line Smith Sync holder with .8MM compression .8MM tension and 1000 PSI coolant capable. It's designed for hard to reach close conditions. This holder's body diameter is only 24MM, but it still offers a good tool size range with the industry standard 16 series collet pocket. Despite its small size using thru hardened high alloy bearing steel and our TM Smith precision ball drive makes this holder durable and long lasting.
